Road Trip Colorado--Tunes

Tomorrow I am driving to Colorado.  It will be just me making the trip.  If I get away early enough I'd like to drive thorough Evergreen, see our old house, and look at how the town has changed.  It is always interesting to me to think about how big everything looked as a kid, and how different it looks as an adult.

Randi, Kate, Kristi and I are running the Georgetown half marathon on Saturday morning.  I have wanted to go and run it again for a few years, but the timing of it--a week before school starts--is never good.  Georgetown to Idaho Springs half marathon is the first race I ever ran.  I ran it with Randi and Dad before I was in high school in ...I can't remember the year exactly...was it 1981? That is about thirty years ago. (Sheesh...I sound old!)

In the afternoon on Saturday, I get to go through the temple with Lucy.  I love this girl.  (I can't wait to hear where she will be going on her mission. Hopefully we'll know today!) Since I was a teenager putting booties on guests who were visiting the newly opened Denver temple, I have loved going to this temple.  Being there with Lucy will be incredible. This will be, of course, the most amazing part of the whole weekend.

I am contemplating attending church in the Evergreen ward on Sunday morning on my way home.  I don't think I have been to that ward for more than 15 years.  It is not that I expect to see anyone I recognize, or have anyone recognize me, but I think it will bring back memories of a happy childhood growing up in the mountains of Colorado.

Since I am on my own driving the 9 hours each way and I have control of the stereo and I am making playlists.  I would love to have suggestions on some songs/artists you like to listen to while you drive.  (And with the Georgetown half this weekend and the 2 upcoming marathons in the next months I need some new songs to listen to.)
Have you visited your old home town?  How was it?  What are your current favorite songs?

I am from Parowan, and my grandparents still live there, we visit a few times a year. My kids love to go see the house that I grew up in and hear stories of what it was like.

As far as music, I like to listen to the radio when I drive. I hear a better variety of songs than listening to my ipod for endless hours.

Have a great drive!

I think it would be fun to live closer to where you grew up. Having family in the same town really helps. I don't think I have been to Evergreen since my parents moved away.
Thanks for commenting.

Jen~ Didn't you go to Evergreen with us when we were all there for Dad's 70th?? I LOVE driving thru there, and seeing the old houses that we lived in. Going to church up there sounds like a blast. I wonder if we might have time to go to sacrament meeting before heading to the temple....we'll have to look into that.

I love the drive from Grand Junction to Denver. So pretty!!

Can't wait to see you on Sat!

I don't remember why I didn't go with you guys. Maybe we were visiting Tawnya when you all went? You mean before heading to the airport...I am guessing.

I do love that drive too. I am looking forward to appreciating the Colorado Rockies. :)

I listen to a lot of music that I can sing along to. I LOVE it when I can turn it up as loud as I want to, and just sing at full volume. Usually for me this list includes Taylor Swift, some new popular songs that I have an obsession with at that time (Right now that would be What Makes You Beautiful, Call Me Maybe, Pay phone etc.), and some songs/artists that I remember listening to on car trips as a kid (Shania Twain, Knock Three Times, The Gambler, etc.)
What a pretty drive!
It was SOO fun to see you this weekend! I am so happy that you were able to make the drive. It was so special that I got to go through the temple surrounded by family. It really made the experience for me...even though I was a bit emotional at the end :)

Lucy, thank you for the music suggestions. :)

It was really wonderful to get to be there with you in the temple. There is really nothing like having all your family around you when you are in the celestial room. Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day, and for including me in all the fun and adventure of your life.
