Reception Priorities

Jocelyn and I have been making wedding/reception plans, with the help of so many of our family members (Thank you all!)  Of course every great event has a budget to manage, and the reception is no different.  While Jocelyn and I view most things very similarly it has been interesting what each person we talk to sees as the financial priority.  And which things they could do without completely.

So I pose this question to you.  If you were going to list the financial priorities for the reception/wedding what would they be? (We can rule out actual wedding costs since the Temple charges nothing! I love that the most important thing is completely covered. :))

Flowers (Bouquet, boutonnieres, corsages, bridesmaid flowers)
Photographer  (Bridal, Engagement, Wedding Day pictures sub categories)
Invitations
Venue for reception
Decorations for reception
Reception Food
Wedding Dress/Tux for Groom
Bridal Party Dress/Suits
Wedding Cake
Rings
DJ/Music

For me the wedding dress is probably the most important, because I want her to feel like the princess that she is that day.  The invitations are a close second, because for some people, they are the only part of the wedding they will see.

Don't be shy, chime in and tell me at least your top two, and one you could live without completely.

1)Wedding Dress/Tux for Groom a large part of the fairtale
2)Rings - long after the rice falls these endure
3)Reception Food - Okay here is where to spend some money nothing fancy but you'll need a lot of it and variety because of all the people who will want to come a support you/her
4)Invitations - Buy the paper, print them yourself and do it by hand. I imagine this will save 50%
5)Flowers
6)Photographer 1)Bridal, a must these pictures are priceless. 2)Engagement just snap a coupl with your phone and you're done. 3)Wedding Day ask jeff to come up and shoot it.it's free!
6)Decorations for reception - a small wedding line back drop, borrowed table clothes, very minimal
7)Bridal Party Dress/Suits
8)Wedding Cake homemade with help from one of your expert friends right? This sould be cheap. Funny story to tell sometime about my wedding cake
Last - DJ/Music use an ipod playlist
Last-Venue for reception - The Church is free!

Looking over my list I'm probably in for a real shock when my kids get married aren't I? I wish I was around more to help share in the joy.

Matt: You're killing me with the deleting your own comments! I love having your thoughts and hey a comment or two is nice. (At least they get emailed directly to me....even if you delete them off my blog.)

Thanks for weighing in on the importance of things. :)
