I am immediately corrected by the boy. "It's an ocean habitat." "Ohhh....a diorama of an ocean habitat. It makes me want to go to the ocean. You did a great job."
He looks into my eyes and adds with sincerity "My mom says you need to drive carefully so it doesn't get messed up." I nod seriously back at him. "Okay, I will!"
Gavin begins examining it. "That's the coolest ocean bionome I have ever seen." The boy is silent. I can tell he doesn't know what that word means, and Gavin says it so casually that we are all wondering if bionome is a real word.
"A what?" I say. (Since an incident on the play ground where he described waving his arms in the air, as "using his karate on a boy named Landon" we've been trying to keep Gavin's descriptions more accurate and less colorful.
"Yeah mom." He says with enthusiasm "A bionome is a climate or environment. In Minecraft (the source of all power and knowledge), they have bionome jungles and deserts.
"Huh.." I say quickly Googleing the word bionome.
"A major regional or global biotic community, such as a grassland or desert, characterized chiefly by the dominant forms of plant life and the prevailing climate
I stand corrected. That is a cool bionome. Thanks for the new word Gavin!
