We realized during this past year's Primary program that Gavin doesn't know most of the words to the Primary songs. He moves his lips and head, and kinda hums some version of the tune. Which is incredibly entertaining to more ward members than just our family, but slightly disruptive when the whole bench is shaking because of laughter.
In an effort to help him we have started to sing and teach Primary songs in Family Home Evening.
This week Shawn was out of town and Gavin picked the song Scripture Power.
He sang it for us first. It went something like this.
"Na nan na na naaaa na,
Na nan na I can,
I'm reading na na na na,
I'm nana nnaaa naa
Scripture Power! Na na na
Scripture Power is the power na na,
Scripture Power na na na na need.
The na na na Sript nnna need."
We decided to practice all the way to get yogurt and back. On the way to yogurt I told him he would have to know all the words to the chorus before anyone could have yogurt. After 10 minutes of sitting in the parking lot, he mostly had it and we went in for FroYo.
After eating, we got back into the car and practiced the first verse all the way home. When we arrived at the house we had Gavin sing it for us. He missed at least 2 words in each phrase. But that was SO much better than an hour earlier.
When I said "Let's all try it one more time".
Gavin said "Why? I already got the yogurt. How about next time you want me to practice you buy me more Frozen Yogurt."
How can I argue with that logic? Everyone in the car. Gavin NEEDS to practice his Primary songs.

There's an app for the iphone called "Children's Sing-Along" it's got all the songs with pictures of kids, and missionaries and stuff. It would be cooler if you could listen to the songs while playing angry birds, or something like that, but I guess the pictures might keep his (and my kids) attention for a song or two....
I really need an iphone! Perhaps they have one for the Droid. I will go check it out. Great suggestion. :) Thanks Kristi
What a smart kid! That's one way to get frozen yogurt ;) How did you teach the rest of your children the primary songs?
Tic Tacs and M&M's. But now with all the advances in science we can do better. :) Funny girl.
So cute!! I can imagine your primary program is very entertaining. :)
Haha it was hilarious I was trying so hard not to laugh!
