Building a Lazer Mania

"Dad.  I want to do something fun this weekend." announces Gavin as he bounces onto Shawn's and my bed..
"Ok, Gavin" responds Shawn "What were you thinking would be fun?"
Considering that Gavin writes about his weekend experiences in his school writing book, we have begun changing what we do each weekend--to give him something else to write besides "I watched TV and played Legos with my Dad."

"I want to build a Laser Mania. That way we don't have to pay to get in and play."
"Hummm." responds Shawn giving it an appropriate amount of consideration. "Well, it might be more expensive to build our own.  What kinds of things do you think we need to build a new Laser Mania?"
"Boards, screws, windows, lasers, a cash register, locks for the doors...." Gavin begins his list.
"That is a lot of stuff to remember" I add. "Maybe you should get a paper and start making a list."
"Good idea!" yells Gavin as he heads towards my office to get a paper and pencil.
A minute or two later he and Shawn have a list they are generating.
"Okay," says Gavin. "I think this is enough.  Now we need to go to Home Depot and get the supplies and get building!"

He's so good! I wouldn't have thought of sewer and water pipes.

Isn't he super curious and smart! He would say "I think that is it." and Dad and I would make more suggestions about hinges, and wires. Gavin and I actually had a detailed discussion about electrical wiring and plumbing. Made me glad I had a Dad who taught and explained it to me when I was young and that I had some experience contracting our house 15 years ago. You never know when knowledge/experience is going to come in handy.
