So yesterday I took 4 trips to the Home Depot in a 4 hour period of time. Ahh I could rant about my project for 10 minutes, but I am not going to bore you with all the details. Instead I will focus on the fact that the lights are replaced and working. Not that it took 40 minutes to install 2 of them, 2 hours the next one, and 30 minutes for the 4th one. (digressing....)
Gavin joined me on my 3rd trip to the store. "What are we looking for?" he had asked in the car. I explained that we were looking for a specific bolt to help me with the lights. Gavin entered Home Depot and went immediately to the lady at the cash register.
"Come on Gavin. I know where this aisle is." I say. (Been there 2 other times today!) But he waits to get the lady's attention.
The worker can't see me as Gavin asks "Which aisle are the bolts on? My mom needs one like this for the light." She laughed and came around her register to show him to the aisle. (I am sure she was wondering if I send him to buy my cigarettes too.)
She shows him to aisle 12 and smiles when she sees me there too. While I found the correct size and length of bolt, Gavin played with the screws/nuts/washers in the open bins. After finding the bolt, I look over to see Gavin holding a 1/4 inch nut in his hand.
"Isn't this cool Mom? Think how many things you could put together with this." comments Gavin.
"Yes," I say, "These things are pretty cool. We've got to go."
"Can I buy one Mom? Please!!!" Gavin begins pleading.
I look down at the bin. They are 4 cents. "Of course!" I say winning Gavin's "You're the Best Mommy smile".
After paying for the items, and heading out the door, Gavin begins talking to his nut. We pass a guy going out the door and Gavin says loudly "You are my nut, and I will protect you, because I love my nut."

LOl. That is awesome!! Did he name the nut?
Several years ago Mom took Nathan to Home Depot and let him spend like $15 on nuts and bolts and wires and washers and whatever. He still tinkers around with that stuff. :)
That is such a great idea. :) It is kinda funny how little boys gravitate to that.
No name on the nut yet...that I know of. But I was pretty absorbed in my project. I will have to ask him. :)
I am so glad such a little thing could make him so happy! Gavin is such a crack-up. I'm sure the people of Home Depot would love to have him back for a visit :)
I think Becky offers a great suggestion...you should buy him a small tool box filled with interesting gadgets...I would love to see what he would create! You could video the progression of the project because I'm sure he would provide fabulously entertaining commentary that I would pay to watch...this kid is hilarious!!!
Would love to take that guy to the hardware store.
