Gavin Mine Craft and Videos

Gavin has been watching MineCraft videos via Shawn's phone and YouTube.  A month or so ago he was watching a video when we heard the narrator of the video say a couple swear words.  That stopped the free reign of the phone and we initiated a more thorough screening process for videos.  Now either Shawn or I get the opportunity to preview or watch with Gavin to make sure they are appropriate and don't swear.

As exciting as it sounds--sitting through a self-made video about how you play a video game--Shawn and I have begun using different distraction techniques, to avoid having to sit through the videos.  One Shawn likes to employ involves allowing him to play a game on the phone instead of watching a video.

Today Gavin was playing a Spiderman game on Shawn's phone.  He told a distracted Shawn that he had taken a cool picture and was going to post it on Facebook.  Knowing Gavin has heard his sisters say this phrase many times, and that he doesn't have a Facebook account, Shawn absently agreed and went about doing something else.

A few minutes later we are sitting down getting ready for church to start.  I glance down at my phone and see an alert.  "Shawn has posted a new picture on Facebook."

Ha ha. What did he post?? Was it the cloud picture on Dad's Facebook?

Funny. Yes it is that picture from the car window, with the Spiderman logo on the top left. I laughed and laughed. Dad is so nice and willing to let him use his phone. I am way more protective of my phone. (I purposely don't have fun games on it.) Thanks for commenting J!

Yeah, establish your rules before you hand him your phone. Thanks for commenting!
