This year for a couple of my friends birthdays, instead of buying individual gifts, I put together a little bag of some of my new favorite things for them to try. Let's just say the gift was met with mixed reactions. I am sure it was confusing--a bag of random items instead of a bracelet or whatever. (I thought the card was clever "A few of my New Favorite things for one of my favorite people.") In retrospect, I don't know why I was surprised. I do know that not everyone loves to try new things.
So I am sharing them here, with all of you. If one sounds interesting, comment in, or go get one and tell me what you think!
1. Dentyne gum in the 80 or 120 piece pack: It is a little pathetic to admit how much gum gets chewed at my house--maybe think of it as an exercise in good breath. I love the large pack, because the gum is cheaper, I have to open fewer packs, there are no foil bits to pick up and it is not as noisy. Con: I tend to eat 2 pieces instead of the one I would have eaten out of the blister pack.
2. Orville Redenbaukers Lime and Salt Microwave Popcorn: If you love popcorn & limes this will be a no brainer for you. The flavors are great together! We tried to duplicate it with fresh lime juice but it is just not good soggy. :)
3. Mint Mentos: Marissa hooked me on Mentos. I love eating them. Good news is that I have a hard time eating a whole roll in one sitting and it makes your breath minty fresh (You can buy them in 6 roll packs at Walmart for less than $.50 a roll.)
4. Downey Fabric Scent: (You're about to learn what a freak I am about my clean bed.) I wash my sheets every week, and the first day I sleep in it I pull the sheet right up to my nose and bask in the glory of the clean sheet smell. It is my favorite night of the week. (My wonderful husband often washes our sheets right before I come home from a trip because he knows how much I love it!) The AMAZING thing about these fabric scent little pills is that the clean sheet smell lasts almost the entire week. They are kinda expensive, so I don't use them for all my laundry.
5. Lindt White Chocolate Coconut: I admit it. I am a chocolate snob. Most chocolate is simply not worth the calories, and the time I have to spend running them off. However, Lindt chocolate always is. Anytime Lindt puts out a new bar I buy it. I usually prefer dark chocolate, so the fact that white chocolate made it to this list is high praise. Coconut bits give it texture, and Lidnt creamy chocolate doesn't disappoint.
6. Sally Hansen Pedicure Stickers: These are different than the stickers that some companies sell. These are made of nail polish, so when you open the sealed package the nail polish sheets start to harden. (There are two packs in a box) I like them because they look like a professional paint job. If you prepare your nails well before you begin, and you seal them with clear polish, they will last a whole month. (At $8 a box, that makes $4 a pedicure--great deal!)
7. Crystal Light Mint Mojito: If you came to Lake Powell this year you got to try this drink during our lunch. It is wonderfully refreshing. My favorite things about it are; it isn't pop (no fizz), it is virtually colorless and it only has 5 calories.
Now go try one of these new things and let me know what you think. Or have you trued something recently that you think I should try? Comment in and let me know!

I love the Downey Fabric Scent! I use it for washing my towels too. I haven't tried the Lindt chocolate or the pedicure stickers. Did you get them at Walmart? I think I get my chocolate snobbishness from you, haha.
Maybe when I am in town this whole next week for gymnastics camp for Gavin, we can do pedicures and see how you like them. And of course get some chocolate!
Thanks for commenting-- :)
Marissa and I made lime popcorn with the "true lime" packets. It was pretty good, not quite as good at the orville kind, but still better than plain old butter :) Also, I managed to drink 2qts of mojito all by myself a couple of days ago- good stuff! I'm going to have to try the downy scent, and my toes are in need of a pedicure! :)
Ohh...True Lime--that is a great idea. Much less soggy than using regular limes. A week ago I decided to make a pitcher of the Mojito for dinner(BTW they really need to make them in individual packet size.) thinking that with Shawn, Tiffany, Gavin and I we could drink it all. Tiffany and I drank it all before dinner and had to make another. :)
I would love a gift like that!! It's like a bunch of gifts in one. And I LOVE the mojito. We've been at band camp this week for 14 hours a day....and it's HOT. Yesterday I mixed up some mojito and put it into a thermos before we left. Then, at 10pm last night when we got into the car there was some nice, cool mojito waiting for us. Nathan laughed out loud when I looked at him and offered him the thermos. I just said "mojito??" and he thought it was hilarious. IT was awesome to have it though. Individual packets would be perfect so I don't have to drink the entire 2qts by myself.
The downy sheets sound amazing...I'm going to have to look for those...
AND~ Last week I discovered a lindt type bar that was dark chocolate with black pepper and lemon....it was so yummy!! Didn't expect to like it, but I really did!
That story about Mojitos is so funny. It is really refreshing! I am looking forward to hearing all about band camp!
Ooooo I am going to have to find it and try it. I have never seen a black pepper and lemon Lindt bar! Thanks for the suggestion.
That is FUNNY
I LOOVE this post! I had no idea about the Sally Hansen nail thing. I had been lamenting that no salon here does the sticker wraps.
Mojitos -mmmmm
And the Downy. You are totally right. I love the purple one.
Also I have given Jocelyn a hard time about her clean bed for years. I had no idea I should be giving you a hard time as well. :)
What a FABULOUS present!! I think you are brilliant!
Maybe your friends just don't like to try new things. I know for me I find something I like and then I never stop using it. Don't be offended. People are different.
I agree with you--some people don't. It is wonderful though to find those things that you like so much you "never stop using it." Thanks for taking the time to comment.
