Tiffany Driving

Tiffany is driving pretty much everywhere we go these days.  Is it fun to see her developing her skills as a driver and becoming more confident of her abilities.

It is intersting to see how Shawn and I differ in teaching her how to drive.  I like to give her advanced directions.  "We are going to the pool.  I want you to take a right at the stop sign, go right on valley view till we hit Sunset.  We are going to turn left on Sunset so you want to be in the left lane before we get there."  Then as she follows each step, I remind her of the next one, talk about anticipating other idiot-- I mean less attentive, drivers and discuss making the ride as smooth as possible for the passengers.

Shawn on the other hand tells Tiffany where we are headed and then lets her determine everything else.  The only other directions he usually gives are "Speed up" or "You're going too slow." --where I would have said "You're going 22mph. What is the speed limit?"

It hasn't gone unnoticed by me, that as with Tiffany, all the driving direction that Shawn desires is where we are going.  Side seat driving is very discouraged in our car.  :)

People who know our family will ask how the driving lessons are going and tell their new driver stories.  I am often taken back by the parents who tell horror stories about their kids driving and then finish with.  "I can hardly wait until they get their license and I don't have to ride with them anymore."

Really?  You don't see anything wrong with that?

Tiffany really has learned fast. (Probably from watching you guys learn!)
I am sure I would be a better teacher for you, now that I have helped 3 kids learn to drive.
And give yourself credit. Once you got the hang of it, you became a great driver!

I would imagine that Gavin is going to like driving. He certainly has plenty to say about it even now!
